Just gonna… dust the cobwebs off here…

Hey! Great to be back on the blogging train (but who knows how long until my next one?)

Things have been so busy on the development and work side of life that I haven’t had time to update the blog. But we’ve got some big news coming up…

WA Games Week is upon us! A celebration of the local game development industry, spotlighting upcoming and established companies, initiatives, communities, technologies, and many more!

So what am I doing for WA Games Week? WELL…

Board Games Workshop – Game Design for Education

Another entry into my Game Dev Delve series, but this time it’s for ALL AGES! While my workshops are usually aimed at younger audiences, I’m excited to be running one for WA Games Week that’s open for designers who may be looking to start their career, or pursue a hobby, or maybe a little help with their big project! My approach to teaching games design focuses on the basics, which can be good for those starting out, or someone deep into development who might need a little refresher.

Either way, follow this link to the WA Games Week website and snap up your ticket!

Dapper Cranium’s Totally Legit Guide to Board Game Building

It’s totally legit! Honest!

But no seriously, this is super exciting! If you want to learn more about my method of board game design (or game design in general) it’s now entirely condensed down into a nifty little book/guide. I call it a guide because I’ve designed the whole thing with big reference to some of those old tacky unofficial game guides you’d get for free in magazines or whatever. This little guide has been an absolute joy to put together, and thanks to my buddies at the Environmental Printing Co, you can get your hands on your own copy of Board Game Building from Monday the 18th of September! I’ll be rolling it out across the city soon after WA Games Week. Until then, come find me at the workshop on Monday, or at…

Perth Games Festival

We’re back! And this time… SO IS BOUNTY BURGLARS!

Having taken a much needed development break from my weird little sci-fi metroidvania baby, I’ve been able to re-approach it with a fresh mind and some funky new ideas. Really focusing on the aspects I want to build and get the most fun out of. It’s another prototype, of course, but with each playtest the game gets better and better… or I learn more lessons to use on my other games, and this one keeps gathering dust in a corner… Not this time though!

If you’re at Perth Games Festival on the 23rd of September, swing by and give the game a whirl! I’ve even got exclusive Bounty Burglars themed badges for the PGF badge quest!

Hope to see you sometime during WA Games Week!
